Disorders like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, or multiple sclerosis can impact person’s ability to move, speak, swallow, or to perform self-care like toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, or even eating. Our team of clinical specialists for occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy offer a holistic rehabilitative care. - Your occupational therapist will help restore your ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) such as eating, dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, handwriting, medication management, cooking, and housekeeping.
- Your physical therapist will help restore your ability for walking, movement control, balance, coordination, and endurance by incorporating specific exercise programs, incorporate manual therapy and some specific stretches to manage your spasticity (muscle tightness), and range of motion exercises to maintain your joint function for mobility.
- Your occupational and physical therapist will also perform home environment and safety assessment and provide you with necessary recommendations for home modifications if required. They will also help you select the most appropriate assistive device (rolling walking, wheelchair etc.) if needed.
- If indicated, your speech therapist will perform swallowing assessment to make sure you are not at risk of aspirational pneumonia and that your diet and fluid consistency is safe for you. If you are diagnosed with a swallowing disorder, your speech therapist will also provide you treatment to improve your ability to swallow foods safely and ensure that you are able to enjoy your favorite foods without being at risk for aspiration. If your speech therapist’s clinical assessment for swallowing is inconclusive, she can also recommend tests like FEES or MBS to your physician.
